Individually sealed in trays and boxed in units of 10, the standard sterile disposable scalpels feature polystyrene handles. They are commonly used in aesthetic procedures such as "Dermaplaning," which involves refining the skin's top layers through controlled surgical scraping. This treatment results in a smoother appearance for the skin. Dermaplaning is often utilized to enhance the appearance of facial skin that may be scarred from acne, accidents, or previous surgeries. It is also effective for smoothing out small facial wrinkles and removing pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. This procedure can be performed on specific areas of the skin or the entire face, either on its own or in combination with other treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or fluorescent pulsed light (FPL). Prior to other treatments, dermaplaning can eliminate "peach fuzz" that may trap excess dirt and oil. This non-invasive procedure also enhances the effectiveness of other skin treatments.
